Organizing Kids Clutter
How to Create High Functioning and Clutter-Free Space with KIDS Around
Kids today do much more in their rooms than just sleep. They go to their rooms to play, to enjoy company with friends, to read books, to do homework, and to simply hide from the world. A child’s room is often a multi-tasking room, which means it is a space that requires efficient organization or else it ultimately becomes a cluttered mess. What with toys and books and little people with messy habits, our kids’ rooms are often the biggest challenges to organize and then keep organized.
6 Products to help you with Organizing Kids Clutter
_ __ _ __ _ __ _ __ _ __ _ **Storage bins that stack on top of one another in coordinating styles and colors are perfect for housing everything from school papers, favorite books, small toys, etc. Use these bins on bookshelves, in the closet, or on a wall shelf shelf. (The photo bins shown here can be purchased at the container store.) – — – — – — – — – — – — – — – — – — – –
- **Toy box is practically a swear word to a professional organizer. It is often referred to as the bottomless clutter pit where everything has to come out in order to find the one item needed. SOLUTION: One of my favorite toy storage bins is the Rubbermaid All Access Organizer. Labeling with a photo of the toy it contains makes it quick and easy for your child to put small items away properly. (This wonderful item is available for purchase at any local Walmart store for $15 each.)
**Children should be able to EASILY reach the clothes in their closet so they can take care of dressing themselves and maintaining their own closet clothing area. Use a double hang rod to lower their cloths for easy retrieval. (This item can be purchased at Bed, Bath, and Beyond.)
**Dressers should contain only those clothes the child is wearing currently. SOLUTION: If your child will be growing into hand-me-down cloths, keep them size labeled and boxed up in clear plastic bins until they fit your child.
**Make sure your kids craft supplies are portable and ready to create with an inexpensive cleaning caddy. If you feel inclined, you could have one craft caddy for younger children and one for older children.
**Many parents feel their child is a budding Picasso. In fact…most are not, but their artwork IS important. SOLUTION: Even if you feel your child is VERY talented, set a specific limit on the number of art pieces that will be on display at any given time. My recommendation is three. This homemade display clipboard sets size limits for you.

Marsha, I got the hamper used in the TV segment at a specialty store, but Target’s online store has some very cute ones. Take a look there.

I too love the rubbermaid all access organizer you have listed here. The drop down front panel makes storage of my child’s item easy for retrieval. I buy mine online but am pleased to now know they are sold at Walmart.Thanks.

Amanda, any water-safe basket with holes will work. A basket with plastic coated metal is what is what you saw, but a plastic bin with holes on the bottom works equally well and is much less expensive.

I loved your tip about stackable storage bins. I have two little boys and it seems like they are able to clutter things up as soon as I organize them. I think that if I got some bins and taught them to put their stuff back in them my life would be much easier.
