How to Teach Children to Organize
Organizing habits learned early on and made part of a child’s life are skills that they can keep with them throughout adulthood. These 3 ideas will make it easier to teach children to organize and then maintain their own living spaces:
1. Make it FUN when you teach children to organize and maintain!
• Make it a game to put away toys. Reward children with a sincere “thank you” or points toward a prize they want. Your appreciation shows your approval.

• Label the containers by using pictures to show what goes in the container.
•Use open storage containers when possible. Remove the lid from every container you can.
3. Make it COLORFUL when you teach children to organize!
• Consider durable, colored plastic containers that complement the room. Involve the children when selecting colored containers. If they are part of the decision making process they are more motivated to keep the room in order.
