Home Organization Specialist - organizing mastery setI was invited once again to be the home organization specialist on KSL Television’s Studio 5 TV Show. The 8 minute show segment focused on the following:

  • Items that can be tossed in the kitchen, bedroom, bathroom, family room, and home office of every home.
  • How to best organize these rooms with tricks and tools used by trained professional home organizers. (BTW: the products I showcased can be found at your local Bed, Bath and Beyond store.)

As I closed the show I offered a free printable of which you can easily take advantage.

♦ Our printable list of 15 Items To Toss Out Today.

♦ We had 98 entries in our random drawing for two Bed, Bath and Beyond $50 gift cards. On Wednesday, May 13th, my neighbor, Patti Smart, stuck her hand into a large kitchen bowel and pulled out the names of two lucky winners:

  1. Jenny Hansen Weston of Salt Lake City, UT won by liking us on Facebook.
  2. Malinda Biesinger of Santa Monica, CA won by entering a comment below.

Congratulations to both Jenny and Malinda!

I have downsized the 60 comments we had on this article post. I left those that might be helpful to you as you continue reading.

I plan/need to purge my office as an adjunct instructor I keep old handouts. I need to purge and let go of them and only keep the digital version.

Living room, I have piles of papers that need to be looked through and filed or shredded

  3. Amy C Says:

My craft room area really needs some help! I have a lot of scraps of paper that I have saved “just in case I could use it one day.” I am going to start by throwing out any paper scrap that is smaller than about 5 inches.

  4. Dana Pack Says:

starting in the kitchen. . .all of my doubles are going OUT! 🙂

  5. Debi Hunt Says:

I have begun working in my hallway linen closets, (there are 2 separate closets), as well as my office space right off the same hall way.
I am going to begin with the excess of sheets, unused bed skirts and pillowcases for both bed and decorative pillows.
Thank you so much! I enjoyed your segment on Studio 5 today brought more inspiration and encouragement to just “Let Go” of all the forgotten things cluttering up our physical and mental space!

  6. Connie Figgins Says:

My basement is out of control. First thing I’m tossing are the chairs that I was so sure I could DIY into something spectacular, but never had the time (nevermind the fact that I wouldn’t have space for the completed project)!!

  7. Kim Jensen Says:

Great ideas! Especially the getting rid of duplicate items. I have traveled to Europe numerous times & I can honestly say they don’t collect clutter like us! Americans hold on to many things they don’t need!

  8. Vicki Winterton Says:

Kim. I have never traveled to Europe, but I agree with you…We Americans collect and store WAY more things than we need to function. Thanks for visiting. 🙂 Vicki

  9. Vicki Winterton Says:

We Utahan’s love DIY projects. I’m pleased to hear that you have decided the “chairs project” is one you can let go. 🙂 Vicki

  10. Vicki Winterton Says:

Alisha, I suggest that with paper purging you either: Toss, Shred, or File. I recommend trying to toss or shred at least 50% of the papers you process because statistically we know that we will only EVERY look at about 20% of what we file away for future reference. Glad you are tackling this important project. 🙂 Vicki

  11. Emily S. Says:

My office/craft room is what needs the most help. I plan to start separating out bills, receipts, warranties, etc into, as you say, “toss, shred, or file piles.”

  12. Brooke Says:

I am going to go through my kitchen cupboards. I loved all your advice on Studio 5!

I have started to go through my whole house, one room at a time. I started to purge scrapbook paper from my craft room to donate. My sewing room is next, do you know of anyone who accepts fabric as a donation? My worst area is my paperwork, love the tip about once it is paid to get rid of it! Will definitely use that tip! Thanks for a chance to win!
