How to Organize Basement Storage
I worked for a male client located in Orem, Utah this week. Scott wanted me to tackle and organize basement storage shelves. Because he was a man of importance at his workplace he felt it was a finance forward decision to hire me rather than take the time himself to do the work.
I explained to Scott that I did not know which items his family valued so he, his wife, and their four children would need to take a quick look through the items I pulled off the shelves so they could decide what would be purged and what would be put back on the shelves I categorized and zoned. (Look at the photo below to see the finished project.)

After that I would:
- Drive the items for donation to Scott’s favorite charity,
- Zone the storage shelves,
- Categorize into containers (bins) what was staying, and then
- Label the shelves and containers.
Scott and his family were thrilled with the finished basement storage room. I was thrilled I got the opportunity to help this family live a more orderly life. (BTW: 6 months later they sold their home and downsized. They were very happy they had taken care of downsizing that specific room earlier!)
LOOK AT THE DIFFERENCE my skilled training and this family’s willingness to motivate change in surroundings can make in a day! Scott believed it was better to live richly than to die rich. Scott is a very smart man.
