How to Organize Craft Supplies
My trainee, Jessica Rose, recently published an article in the Daily Herald newspaper titled “4 Tips to Organize the Mess in Your Craft Room” and I wanted to give my blog readers some extra tips, as well as a free printable, my Craft Room Inventory Guide.
Craft rooms get a lot of use, but it doesn’t mean they have to be messy. Take the time to get your craft room organized, and then spend a few minutes each day, maintaining that organization.
- The most important organizing tip I can offer you is this: Organize craft supplies so each item has a good place in which to reside.
- The second most important organizing tip is that every item is stored in its place when it’s not in use.
Here are some pictures to help spark some ideas for your own craft room.

All you need to organize craft supplies is:
- a shelving unit
- a bunch of plastic (see-through) boxes OR any bins of your choice, and
- labels (it’s much easier to find what you need when it’s labeled!!)
A pegboard is a great way to organize craft supplies. A pegboard will keep things on display, while out of the way. The pegs are adjustable and you can switch them around as often as you need. Rods are also helpful in a craft room. Rods can hold spools of ribbon or big rolls of wrapping paper.
Glass jars are incredibly popular right now. In addition to looking cute, they can help you organize craft supplies. Clear jars of different sizes can hold all kinds of miscellaneous craft supplies, from buttons to pompoms, to paperclips. It’s always good to find jars with a lid, so if something gets tipped over, your supplies remain contained.

Admiring the thought you put into your articles and the depth of information you present. It’s great to come across a blog every once in a while that presents well thought out material. I feel this article contains useful and easy to follow directions for the organization of a home’s craft room storage. I’ve saved your site and I’m including your RSS feeds to my Google account. Thank you!

Woah! I’m really enjoying the information on this page. The second most important organizing tip you listed here is that every item is stored in its place when it’s not in use. That is the hard part for me. I have a tendency to finish and leave the room. I will work on putting items back in their place. Thanks for the reminder. -Wilson
